Geonhee Kim
Born in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. I majored in documentaries at The School of Film, TV & Multimedia of Korea National University of Arts. I am interested in metaphorizing time and memory that have not been recorded mainly into images of urban spaces through the films. I directed several documentaries: Dangsan (2017) which depicts the scenes of anxiety intersecting historical and personal memories in Dangsan-dong; Fortunately, No One Knows Me (2018) which is about how young Korean and Thai people live after Asian Financial Crisis in 1997; The Night of the Factory Girls (2023), which revisits the erased history of women in Yeongdeungpo through testimonies and memories of forced mobilization during the colonial era. Through these works, I aim to trace the fragile boundary between personal memory and collective history, and to bring back the voices and spaces that have been left unrecorded.
